    STUDY HALL:
    Echo & The Bunnymen

Echo & the Bunnymen's fusion of post-punk and obvious inspired Doors undertones earned them a cult following in the early 80's both in the UK and not too far after in the US.

Ian McCulloch, Pete Wylie, and Julian Cope were the founding fathers of the Bunnymen. At the end of 1977, Julian Cope and Pete Wylie left the group to form the Teardop Explodes, leaving Ian to team up with a guitarist by the name of Will Seargeant soon after. By the end of 1978 drum machines and bassist Les Pattinson were added to the band and Echo and the Bunnymen was born. However, only a year later they called it quits on the drum machine by adding a human drummer, Pete de Freitas.

Two years later, Echo & the Bunnymen released Porcupine which would become their biggest hit that included "The Cutter". "The Killing Moon" was their second biggest single that hit the charts in 1984. At the end of 1988, Ian left the band to venture on his own and in the summer of 1989, Pete was killed in an auto accident. Eventually, Ian, Will and Pattinson reunited and became Echo & the Bunnymen once again in 1997.

Whether you've heard Echo & the Bunnymen several times or are listening to them for the first time, it is no mystery that the melodic sound of Ian's voice will take you away into his universe. If this is your first education with the Bunnymen, waste no more time and listen to "The Killing Moon". You'll soon understand their cult following.
